The eighth grade Ram football team remains undefeated after a 46-6 win over the North Polk Comets in Alleman Oct. 1.
Xavier Hayes had three touchdowns, including a 98 yard run. Colby Kafer made three touchdowns running and Brent Riley connected with carter Morton on a 40 yard pass for a touchdown. Morton also connected with Will Hansen in the end zone for a 2-point conversion. Brandon Hoyle was good on two point after touchdown kicks.
Coach Chad Morton said Gage Michaelson and Tyler Miller played very well on the offensive line and that Jacob Hunter is a key player on defense and also as a split end on offense.
The Greene County eighth grade volleyball team won three games and lost five games Oct. 1 to a strong Nevada team. The A squad lost and the B squad won.
Game scores for the A squad were 5-21, 12-21, 13-21, 1-12. Game scores for the B squad were 21-11, 21-15, 21-14, 11-12.
Top servers against Nevada were Aubrey Heupel at 10 for 10 (100 percent) with three aces; Megan Higgins at five of five (100 percent) with one ace; Tieryn Tucker at two of two (100 percent) with one ace; Harleigh Weir at 14 of 15 (93 percent) with three aces; Harjot Dhesian at 11 of 12 (92 percent) with three aces; Sophia Havens at 15 of 17 (88 percent) with five aces; and Kylie Roach at six of seven for 86 percent).
“As a team, we had one of our better nights serving at 84 percent. We served 87 for 104 and had 26 aces,” said coach Teresa Green. “Our main struggle was our serve receive with three of their top servers. We did improve with every game and were able to set up our offense.”
Overall game records as of Oct. 1 are A 15-11, B 19-5, C 3-0, and D 2-0. Overall game record is 39-16. Overall match record is A 4-3, B 7-0, C 1-0 and D 1-0.
The team will conclude its season Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 4 pm vs Panorama in Panora.
The Greene County eighth grade volleyball team hosted Gilbert on Monday, Sept. 28. The Rams won eight games and lost only one to Gilbert. This brings the team’s season overall game record to 36 wins and 11 losses.
Game scores against Gilbert for the A squad were 21-5, 21-12, 21-7, 21-6, 16-3; and for the B squad 21-17, 21-4, 10-21, 21-12.
Top servers were Kylie Roach, 29 of 29 with 17 aces; Ellie Madson, 23 of 23 with 15 aces; Paige Heaning 21 of 22 with 11 aces; Julia Saul 16 of 18 with six aces; Abby Kozal, 12 of 14 with five aces; and Sophia Havens, 23 of 27 with nine aces.
“We served 145 for 169 for 86 percent with 73 aces which is the best we have served as a team so far this season. Kylie and Ellie had a perfect night of serving which helped our team to do so well. Paige, Julie, Abby, and Sophia did a great job serving, too,” said coach Teresa Green. “This team continues to improve with every competition. Harleigh Weir and Sophia do a great job setting for us and we are working on attacking the ball when we hit it.”
The overall game records are A 15-7, B 16-4, C 3-0 and D 2-0. Overall match records are A 4-2, B 6-0, C 1-0 and D 1-0.
